How to keep customers coming back: loyalty, a customer list and win-back

A local business already knows many of its customers by face. Retention is doing that on purpose: know who your regulars are, reward them for coming back, and notice when one stops.

Step one: know who your regulars are

Every customer who orders or joins your queue on your own link is added to your customer list, with their visits and, if you run a stamp card, their stamps. That is the starting point: you cannot reward or win back someone you cannot see.

Step two: reward the habit

  • Run a digital loyalty card: choose how many purchases earn the reward
  • Choose the reward: a free item, a percentage off or an amount off
  • Stamps are added when an order or visit is completed, so nobody has to remember the card
  • The customer confirms a reward with a one-time code sent to their email before it is used

Step three: notice who has gone quiet

  • Turn on win-back and choose how many days without a visit counts as gone quiet
  • Nexq checks once a day and sends one friendly email from your shop
  • Each customer gets one nudge until they come back

Step four: give them a reason to visit

Between visits, an email campaign can tell customers who opted in about a new item, an offer or holiday hours. Preview it before you send.

Doing it with consent

  • The box to hear from you is unticked by default; only customers who tick it are emailed
  • Every email comes from your shop and has an unsubscribe link, and an unsubscribe is honoured on every later send
  • Nexq does not sell customer data and never markets to your customers itself

Where to start

Start with the loyalty card, because it pays back the customers who already come. Add win-back once your list has grown, and send a campaign when you have something worth saying. The customer list, loyalty and emails are part of paid plans; the plans are shown below.
