Guides for running a local business online
Plain-English guides to ordering, queues, loyalty and marketing, written for the person behind the counter. Each one describes what Nexq actually does today, and says which plan it needs.
01Guides
Ordering
Take orders on your own link and hand them over at the counter.

QR code ordering for local shops: how it works
A QR code on your counter or door opens your own ordering page in the customer's phone browser. They choose, place the order and collect it from you. There is no app for them to download and nothing for you to install.

Order-ahead for cafés: getting through the morning rush
In a rush, the queue to order is often slower than the coffee machine. Order-ahead moves the ordering onto the customer's phone, so the order is on your board before they walk in, and they only stop at the counter to collect and pay.

Bakery pre-orders and custom cakes without the back-and-forth
A custom order usually lives in a message thread, a phone note and a docket. Taking pre-orders on your own link puts each one in a single record, with what was ordered and when it is wanted.

Handling Valentine's and Mother's Day orders without the landline
A florist's biggest weeks are often run from a notepad by the phone. Taking collection orders on a link puts every request in one list with the time it is wanted, so peak week runs from a screen.

Food truck order-ahead when your pitch changes every day
The queue at a truck window is ordering and waiting at the same time. When customers order on your link, they can stand anywhere, and their phone tells them when to come to the window.

Queues
Let walk-ins wait anywhere and call them in from one board.
For customers
What is a virtual queue, and how do you join one?
A virtual queue is a place in line that lives on your phone. You join from the shop's QR code or link, see your place and an estimated wait, and wait wherever you like until it is nearly your turn.

Running a barbershop walk-in queue from one board
A walk-in queue works when everyone can see it: the client on their phone, and every barber on one board. Clients join from your QR or link; your team calls them in from the board.

How to reduce walkouts at a walk-in barbershop
A client who walks in, sees a full bench and cannot tell how long it will be often leaves. The fix is to make the wait visible and portable: let them join from their phone, see their place, and come back when it is nearly their turn.

Loyalty & Retention
Reward regulars and bring back the ones who have gone quiet.

Digital loyalty cards: how a stamp card works without the paper
A digital stamp card does what the paper one did, without the lost cards or the stamp in the drawer. You set the rule; customers collect stamps on their phone as they are served, and redeem the reward at checkout.

Win-back emails: bringing back customers who have gone quiet
Regulars rarely announce that they have stopped coming. A win-back email notices for you: when a customer who agreed to hear from you has not been back for the number of days you choose, Nexq emails them on your behalf.

Marketing
Email the customers who asked to hear from you.

Email campaigns for local businesses, sent to customers who asked
The most useful marketing list is the people who already bought from you. Nexq builds it as you trade: customers can tick a box to hear from you when they order or join your queue, and you can email them an offer or news from your admin.

Building a customer list you own, not rent
When customers order through a marketplace, the marketplace keeps the relationship. When they order on your own link, they are your customers: you see who they are and how often they come back.

Commission-free online ordering: what 0% commission means
Nexq takes no percentage of your sales. Customers see your prices, unchanged, and pay you at your counter. What Nexq charges is a plan: free to start, with paid plans if you want more.

Online ordering alongside Square or the till you already use
Nexq does not replace your till. Orders and queue places arrive on the Nexq board; when the customer collects, you take payment the way you do today, on Square or whatever you already use.

06Answers
Common questions
The questions shop owners ask before they start, whatever they run.
What does it actually cost?
The Free plan is A$0 a month — queue or pickup, your branded page, QR join, live status and the staff dashboard. Business and Growth plans add more when you're ready (see Pricing), GST included, and nothing bills unless you choose it. Running more than one shop? Extra locations are A$15 a month per slot.
Does Nexq change what I charge my customers?
Never. You set your prices and they reach your customers exactly as you set them — the total on their phone is your price, times what they ordered. Nexq adds nothing on top: no service fee, no booking fee, no percentage, no Nexq line on their receipt. We're not in the payment path at all, so they pay you what you charge, the same way they do today.
Am I locked in?
No contract and no minimum term. Cancel anytime from billing. We don't sell customer data, and the only messages your customers get from us are offers you wrote, to people who opted in.
How long does it take to train staff?
Staff sign in with their own PIN, and running the floor is three actions: call next, mark ready, done.
Do I need to buy hardware?
No. It runs on the phone or tablet already behind your counter, and your customers use their own phone browser — nothing to download on either side.
So what actually goes on my counter?
One printed page. Nexq generates a poster with your name and your code on it — print it on the office printer and put it by the door, the chair or the till. No terminal, no tablet stand, no kitchen screen, no buzzer pucks. Lose it and you print another for the cost of a sheet of paper.
I already use a booking app. Do I have to drop it?
No. Keep it for appointments — Nexq takes the walk-ins and order-aheads it was never built for. The Free plan is A$0, so running both costs you nothing while you work out which one you actually open. There is no import tool, so nothing moves out of your old system; what makes that fine is that you are not paying to run them side by side.
My trade isn't listed. Does it still fit?
Nexq runs on two mechanics: a live queue, or order-ahead pickup. If your customers wait or collect, it fits. Pick the closest trade when you sign up to see how it reads.
How does the customer actually get told it's their turn?
Three ways, in order. Their status page updates live, so they can simply keep it open and watch. If they allow browser notifications when they join, their phone buzzes even with the page closed. If they don't, we email them instead. Nothing is downloaded either way — but if you want the buzz, it's worth telling people to tap Allow.
What if a customer doesn't have a smartphone?
Your staff add them to the queue from the dashboard, the same as writing a name down — they get a number and you call it. The phone is how most customers save themselves a wait, not a requirement for being served.
What if they miss the alert or wander off?
You decide, not the software. A customer who isn't there when you call can be deferred down the order rather than removed, so they keep their place without holding up the chair. Nothing is automatic — the floor is yours to run.
What happens to my customers' details?
We don't sell customer data, and we never market to your customers ourselves — the only messages they get from us are offers you wrote, and only if they opted in. A name and contact are used to run that visit and your loyalty, nothing else. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Who handles the card details?
Stripe — the same company that bills for a large share of the software you already pay for. Your card goes to Stripe, never to us: Nexq doesn't store card numbers, and Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified, the highest standard in the payments industry. You only need a card at all if you choose something paid; the Free plan never asks for one.
It's Saturday morning and something's wrong. Who do I call?
A person in Adelaide. Email support@nexq.com.au and you'll get an acknowledgement straight away confirming we have it — so you're never left wondering whether it arrived — and a real answer as fast as we can get you one. A queue down while you're trading goes to the front of the line. We'd rather tell you that than promise a number we can't keep every time.
I have more than one shop.
The Free plan covers one location, with every staff member on it. Extra locations are A$15 a month per location — add them yourself from the admin portal, and each site keeps its own queue, staff and branding under one login.
Try it on your own shop
Nexq starts free. Set up your link, share it, and see how customers use it.
